An important step in helping to ensure the security of your quiz is to randomise the order in which your questions and answers will appear to students.

This helps to ensure that while students may be asked the same set of questions during a quiz, the order in which questions are presented and in which answers are listed will vary from student to student. This makes collusion and the sharing of information extremely difficult.

  1. Create a quiz using New Quizzes. See Creating a New Quizzes Quiz in Canvas (formerly Quizzes.Next) for more information.
  2. Click the Settings tab of the quiz builder.
  3. Optional: To randomise the order in which students are presented with questions, toggle Shuffle questions to the on position.
  4. Optional: To randomise the order in which the answers are listed for each student, toggle Shuffle answers to the on position.
  5. Optional: To further limit the potential for collusion, toggle One question at a time to the on position, which will only have one question on-screen while students are taking the quiz.
  6. Ensure that you toggle Restrict student result view to the on position, to prevent students from seeing their answers during or after the quiz.
