You can upload a single file in Blackboard in any content section (although it is recommended you add files to “Learning Materials” or “Resources”) using the “File” option.

A file lets you upload a single file of any type which students can download.

Firstly, make sure that you have edit mode turned on. You can learn more about edit mode here.

Move your mouse over the blue “Build Content” menu at the top of the content area and select “File”.

This will take you to the “Create File” page.

Under “Name”, give the file a name. Your item’s name should ideally imply the information in the document to the student - i.e.: “Week 1 Lecture Slides”.

Under “Find File”, click the “Browse my Computer” button and upload the file from your machine.

If you want to change the file to be uploaded, you can click the “Select a Different File” button.

Under “File Options”, you can select whether you want the file to open in a new window when the student opens it, and if you want to associate the student viewing a file with a “goal” or set of achievements within Blackboard.

Under “Standard Options”, you can specify if and when students can see particular content.

You can learn more about the Standard Options feature here.

When you are satisfied with all of your choices, press the “submit” button.
