You can add a youtube video in Blackboard in any content section using the “Youtube Video” Mashup option.

This option lets you search youtube.com from within Blackboard.

Firstly, make sure that you have edit mode turned on. You can learn more about edit mode here.

Move your mouse over the blue “Build Content” menu at the top of the content area and select “Youtube Video”, under the “Mashups” area.

This will take you to the “Search for a YouTube Video” page. From here, search for the title of the video which you want to add, or enter the youtube URL into the search bar.
From the list of videos displayed, press the “select” button for the video you want to add.

This will take you to the “Create Mash-up Item” page.

Under “Name”, give the video a name. Your item’s name should ideally imply the information in the video to the student - i.e.: “Video of process A”.

Under “Description”, you can, if you wish, include some text that will be displayed with the video. You could, for instance, include a further description of the content in the video, or outline how the video relates to the learning outcomes.

Under “Mash-Up Options”, you can if you want the video to be displayed to students as thumbnail (a small image), as a text-based link, or if it should be embedded in the Blackboard page.
You can also determine if you want to display the YouTube URL and the video information from youtube.

Under “Attachments”, you can attach any files you want to the Video. Click the “Browse my Computer” button and upload files from your machine. The file name will appear beneath the “Attach Files” area. If you want to remove a file you have added, you can click “Do not attach” to the far-right of that file.

Under “Standard Options”, you can specify if and when students can see particular content.

You can learn more about the Standard Options feature here.

When you are satisfied with all of your choices, press the “submit” button.
