When to use Memory games

You can use memory games in any type of exercise that requires the learner to match two images.
There are several memory game options available:

  • Matching two same images,
  • Matching two related images (For example, country flag with a city, an animal with its habitat etc.),
  • Adding sound to represent each image,
  • Displaying feedback per pair when a match has been made and
  • Customizing a look and feel of the game by changing colors or adding a background image.

You can access H5P in Canvas through the Rich Content Editor (RCE), which is accessible via the edit view of Page, Assignment, Discussion Board, Announcement and Quiz questions.

For this example, we will be adding H5P onto a Canvas page. The first thing you will need to do is either open the page you want to embed the H5P content into or create a new page. Then click the ‘Edit’ button which will open the RCE. (You will automatically go into edit mode if you create a new page.)

Next, you will need to locate H5P in the RCE toolbar by clicking on the more external tools icon.

Image Placeholder

Clicking on that menu item will open a pop-up showing your H5P library. From here, you will have the option to either insert previously created content or create something new.

Select the New content option and choose Memory game from the list of Content types:

The Memory game editor should now appear. Type in a Title, the editor should look something like this:

Cards

Start by filling in the first card.
By default, two cards already exist in the set.
You should get something like this:

Notice that the Matching image field is empty. This is because we want the learner to match two same images.

If you would like to match Raspberry image with its leaves, for example, you would add an image of Raspberry leaves as Matching image.

Adding more cards

In the same way, add the next four cards:

In the end, we should get five cards like shown here:
