Qwickly is an optional attendance tool that allows you to manage attendance from within your Canvas modules.  It integrates with the Canvas Gradebook and saves each attendance record for your module.

  • Qwickly is also visible to students, enabling them to monitor their own individual attendance record for their modules where the tool is in use.
  • Qwickly allows you to mark students present or absent in your module, but also allows you to open a self-check in period where students can mark themselves present using their own devices.
  • Qwickly recognises sections and groups in your Canvas modules so you can take attendance for specific cohorts of students, and take attendance multiple times a day for the same module if needed. It also offers a customisable message that can be automatically sent to students when marked absent.

Qwickly is available within Canvas. To activate Qwickly in your module you will need to drag it to the visible area of your module navigation menu. More information on customising your module navigation menu is available here: Organising your Module Navigation Menu.

When you select Qwickly for the first time, you will be prompted by Qwickly to allow access to your account.

Click Authorise to give permission and then Qwickly attendance tool will appear.

Note: the Take Attendance window should open by default.

Attendance Settings

Pictured below are the various attendance settings that you can choose for your module:

  1. User Sorting: You can choose how your attendance will be formatted.
  2. View Preferences: Allows you to choose various options for how attendance is displayed.
  3. Check In: If you have large classes and would like students to check in via their own device, then you can choose this option and decide if you would like a four digit pin code to be generated. Students would have to be present in class to see this pin as it will only appear on the instructor’s screen.
  4. Attendance Statuses: This tab allows you to customise attendance statuses for your module. The default choices are Present, Absent and Excused. You may create your own, but note that they cannot be applied retroactively.
  5. Automatic Emails [optional]: This tab allows you to choose to email a student each time they are marked absent. This message is customisable and can be edited here in this Automatic Emails tab in your settings.
  6. Grading [optional]: This tab allows you to enable grading for attendance in your modules. You can choose to have your attendance appear in the Canvas Gradebook for each session attended or for each absence.
Once your settings have been determined click Save Settings; you can Return to Attendance.

Please note: If you are using sections or groups within Canvas, then your Preferences tab will look slightly different and will include a Student Grouping section. You can choose to take attendance using sections and groups if you wish. Note that choosing this option will still allow you to take attendance for the full class.
