Sections in Canvas are used to subdivide students within a module based on the CRN. If, for instance, you have a crosslisted module, each CRN is a separate section within the parent module.
Sections can also be created to further categorise students based on, for example, lab groups or assessment requirements. Sections offer lecturers the option to send announcements to specific groups of students, to vary due dates for assessments, and to filter student submissions in the Gradebook.
You can request that custom sections are created in your module by contacting the TEL team at edtech@mtu.ie and providing an excel/csv file with the relevant information included under the following headings:
Course Code, CRN, Student ID, Section ID
